Dr. Shaikh Mohammad Bokhtiar joined Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council (BARC) on December 31, 2019 as Executive Chairman (In-charge). Earlier, Dr. Bokhtiar served as the Member Director (Planning and Evaluation) in the same organization. He is also serving as the Director (SAARC Agriculture Centre), BARC Complex, Farmgate, Dhaka. Dr. S M Bokhtiar obtained B.Sc. Ag (Hons.) degree from Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU), Mymensingh in 1985 and MS (Soil Science) from Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University (BSMRAU), Gazipur in 1999. He did Ph. D from the United Graduate School of Agricultural Science, Ehime University, Japan in 2006. Dr. Bokhtiar also worked as post-doctoral research fellow at Guangxi Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Guangxi, China for two years where his research work was on Silicon Nutrition of Sugarcane Crop. He started his carrier as a Scientific Officer in Farming Systems Research and Development Project (FSR&D) at Bangladesh Sugarcrop Research Institute (BSRI) in 1989. He was promoted as Senior Scientific Officer and also performed as the Head of Soils & Nutrition Division, BSRI. Subsequently, he was appointed as Principal Scientific Officer (PSO) at Soils Unit of Natural Resources Management Division of BARC in 2012. During his service at BARC Dr. Bokhtiar also served as the Director (Support Service) and Director (Technology Transfer and Monitoring). Dr. Bokhtiar has 60 published research papers with total citations of 450 (according to Google Scholar) and he is the author of eight books. Dr. Bokhtiar attended several national and international seminar, workshop and training programs at home and abroad. In connection with official assignments he visited several countries like Japan, Thailand, China, Egypt, Philippine, Malaysia, Mongolia, South Korea, Pakistan, New Zealand, India, USA, Ghana, Ethiopia, Australia, France, Germany, Netherland, Kenya, Bhutan, Sri Lanka and Nepal. Born in a respected Muslim family in 1963 in the village Fakirpara under Chapainawabganj District Dr. Bokhtiar is the father of two sons. Spouse Wahida Akhter is a Joint Secretary level officer recruited under 13th BCS (Admin). His father Mr. Sheikh Lal Mohammad was an ideal school teacher and also a renowned vocalist.

Dr. M. Khalilur Rahman, former Director General, Bangladesh Sugarcrop Research Institute (BSRI), is a renowned figure in the agricultural research and development arena of Bangladesh. His brilliant academic records, research skills and achievements earned him a distinguished place among his peers in the country and abroad. He obtained the B. Sc. Ag., M.S. (Agronomy) and PhD (Agriculture) degrees from the Kuban Agricultural Institute (Kuban State Agrarian University), Krasnodar, USSR (Russia) with distinction in 1980, 1982 and 1986, respectively. Dr. Alam started his career as a Senior Scientific Officer at BSRI in 1986 and had worked there for almost 31 years holding various senior research, research management and administrative positions. In October 2014, he became Director (TOT), BSRI, and two months later, in the same year, he was promoted to the position of Director General, BSRI which he held until his retirement from BSRI in February 2017. In his long career as an agricultural scientist specializing in sugarcane agronomy and farming systems research and development (R&D) and sugar beet agronomy, Dr. Rahman had supervised 143 research programs and lead a number of national R&D projects related to sugarcane and sugar beet production. His responsibilities as a research leader included work as Principal Investigator of different research programs on tropical sugar beet and Project Director of the Pilot Project for Development of Sugar Beet Cultivation Technologies in Bangladesh. During his work with these research projects, Dr. Rahman developed tropical beet cultivation technologies suitable for Bangladesh and contributed to the development of 70 other sugarcrop production technologies. He also worked as Principal Investigator of the BSRI Expanded Farming Systems Research and Development Program for Technology Dissemination, Integrated Soil Fertility and Fertilizer Management Project of DAE (BSRI Part). In recognition of his work, Dr. Rahman, along with ten other sugarcrop scientists, was awarded the “Kazi Mahbub Ullah Gold Medal and Prize Money” for the development of the Spaced Transplanting (STP) technique of sugarcane cultivation. In addition to his regular work as a sugarcane researcher, Dr. Rahman served on several important national committees as Member including the National Committee for Identification of Major Causes of Low Sugar Recovery and its Remedial Measures, Seed Certification Agency Committee to Specify Obnoxious Weeds of Notified Crops in Bangladesh and BARC Committee for Research Priority Setting of Crops: Sugarcane, Wheat and Jute. Dr. Rahman has to his credit 85 publications which include research papers in national and international journals, books/monographs/technical bulletins and papers presented at various national and international seminars/workshops/conferences. He authored a book entitled “Sugar Beet Cultivation in Bangladesh” published by BSRI in 2006 and some popular articles on tropical sugar beet cultivation in Bangladesh published in various periodicals. Dr. Rahman traveled to different countries of the world including Russia, India, Thailand, Malaysia, Philippines, South Africa, etc. for professional training and participation in international workshops.

Dr. Debashish Sarkar

Eminent agricultural scientist and entomologist, Dr Debasish Sarker as the Director General (DG) of the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI). Earlier, Dr Debasish Sarker served as director of BARI's Pulses Research Centre at Ishwardi in Pabna. Dr. Debashish Sarkar also joined the Laksha Research Centre of Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute at Chapainawabganj in 1990 as a scientific officer. He was then promoted to senior scientific officer, chief scientific officer and head of scientific officers in BARI's Entomology Department. Dr Sarkar published various research articles in scientific journals, dailies and monthly magazines abroad. He was born on 31 December 1963 in Joypurhat.

Dr. Md. Shahjahan Kabir

Dr. Md Shahjahan Kabir, a known rice scientist of the country, joined Bangladesh Rice Research Institute (BRRI) on August 2017 as Director General. BRRI is the premier research organization in the country, contributed significantly to the development of rice which made the country from a deficit to a surplus rice producing one. Prior to his joining the the position he waked with BRRI at different capacities. Dr. Kabir is managing and directing rice research at BRRI with 300 scientists. His major contribution is his formulation of Bangladesh rice vision 2050 and beyond. In realizing the vision he has been mobilizing resources to rice research and bringing in momentum in motivating professionals working with rice including outreach stations at different ecologies of the country. With the dynamic leadership of Dr. Kabir, BRRI has been developing climate smart rice varieties having traits with shorter duration, temperature tolerant and higher yielding. Many of these varieties are now under cultivation at farmers field including stress prone areas. Born in 1966 in Netrokona district, he served BRRI in different capacities at BRRI. Prior to the new position Dr Kabir was the Director (Administration and Common Service) of the Institute. Dr. Kabir has obtained his Bechalor’s degree from the University of Rajshahi and obtained his Ph.D. degree from Jahangir Nagar University. Dr. Kabir is a pioneer in geo-statistical modelling in National Agricultural Research System (NARS) in the country. He has 70 research articles published in different prestigious journals home and abroad. He represented Bangladesh rice development in many international scientific meeting and conferences and maintaining linkages.

Mr. Md. Manjurul Hannan, holding the position of the Managing Director of Hortex Foundation, joined the foundation on 11th September 2017. Horticulture Export Development Foundation, in short Hortex Foundation is located in Shere-Bangla Nagar in Dhaka. Prior to this position he served the department of Agri Extension largest public extension sector service provider. Mr. Hannan started his career as a Bangladesh Civil Service (Agriculture) cadre and served the country in different capacities in different Departments of the Government of Bangladesh since 1982. His foresightness, vision, proactive actions glorified the establishments that he administered. He retired as the Director General of DAE, the largest establishment of Agriculture of the country that helped the country reach the verge of self-sufficiency in food production. He was born in 1958 and obtained his graduation and Master from Bangladesh Agricultural University and Stamford University respectively. He served Cotton Development Board to promote cotton in the country. As the Chief Executive Officer of Hortex Foundation, he is promoting export of agro-products including horticulture through value addition. Hortex is run by representation of both public and private sectors involved with agro processing. He leads senior professionals having vast expereince in agri-business. The opportunity to serve in different department of Agriculture helped Mr. Hannan, gaining a vast experience, expertise and proficiency in the field of Agriculture. He attended a number of training programs/workshops/seminars etc. held in the country and abroad.

Dr. S. A. Quader established Agriconcern in 2000 for promotion of agro-business. He is now working as its Chief Executive Officer of the Agriconcern. He is an agronomist by profession and holds a Ph.D degree in agronomy from Germany. He was associated with many research programmes in the field of agronomy and has got considerable research achievements.. Besides, he had the opportunity of having advanced training on Marketing Management and Crop Production Technologies (Potatoes and cereals) from the USA and Federal Republic of Germany, respectively. The specialized technology packages that he developed and transferred to farming community helped the year round production of lce-box Watermelon, Muskmelon and capsicum and opened export opportunity. He got national awards in 2013 and 2014 and has been enjoying CIP status since 2013 for his outstanding contribution in developing National Export. He has the membership of a number of professional bodies. He has also to his credit a long and resourceful experience of serving Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC), a national body devoted to development of national agriculture through input promotion and marketing services, and working with the grass root-level farmer groups. In particular, he has the experience of organizing, managing and running the contract production system of seed crops including potatoes under varied agro-ecological and socio-economic environments. The model for contract production of table and seed potatoes for Agriconcern was developed by him. He led the Seed Marketing Project of BADC at the national level. Dr. Quader co-sponsored the creation of Bangladesh Seed Foundation, a voluntary organization at the national level, to serve the farming communities in the country and render advisory and executing services for implementation of its different programmes.

Dr. Md. Shahidur Rashid Bhuiyan

Dr. Md. Shahidur Rashid Bhuiyan is a Professor of Genetics and Plant Breeding of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka. He has been working there in different capacities since 1983. He was appointed Pro-Vice Chancellor of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University for the period 2012-2016. He was Dean, Post Graduate Studies; Director (Research), Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University Research System; Director, Institute of Seed Technology and Chairman, Dept. of Genetics and Plant Breeding of the same University. Dr. Bhuiyan has successfully conducted several research projects financed by GoB and/or donor agency. He is basically a plant breeder and has developed and released 3 (three) rapeseed varieties for commercial cultivation. He is involved in selection, evaluation and monitoring of research projects sponsored by USDA through ERD, Ministry of Finance; agricultural projects of UGC and advanced research grants of Ministry of Education and agricultural projects of BARC and KGF. Dr. Bhuiyan supervised several Ph. D. and seventy five MS students. Dr. Bhuiyan has 24 (twenty four) published books to his credit in diversified fields of agriculture including biotechnology, genetically modified crop, food and nutrition. He has presented 31 papers in different national and international seminars and conferences. He has published 87 scientific papers in different national and international journals. As a popular science writer he has published 198 popular articles on agriculture and related science. He played important role in the publication of 3 (three) journals on agricultural sciences as Editor. He led the preparation of the first country report for the FAO on 'The state of World Biodiversity for food and Agriculture - Bangladesh Part'. He has keen interest in Plant Genetic Resources, Agro-biodiversity and Intellectual Property Right (IPR) Issues. Dr. Bhuiyan was involved in the finalization of the draft 'The Plant Variety Protection' Act. As member of the 'Seed Regulatory Reform Committee' of Ministry of Agriculture he played key role in the formulation of the ‘Seed Act’. He has played a vital role in framing draft act for the establishment of 'The Bangladesh Plant Genetic Resources Institute' as Chairman of the Committee formed by the Ministry of Agriculture. Ministry of Agriculture, Govt. of the Peoples Republic of Bangladesh awarded him 'Bangabandhu National Agriculture Award (Gold Medal)', Bangladesh Academy of Agriculture awarded him Dr. Kazi M. Badruddoza Trust Fund Gold Medal, Krishibid Institution Bangladesh (KIB) awarded Dr. Bhuiyan KIB Agriculture Award, and Plant Breeding and Genetics Society of Bangladesh has awarded him Plant Breeding Award for his contribution to agriculture. As a leader of the professional society he led the Plant Breeding and Genetics Society of Bangladesh twice as President, KIB as Senior Vice President and now as President. He has been rendering his leadership as Chairman of the Bangladesh Biology Olympiad Committee in creating awareness in biology education of young learners of the country through organizing Regional and National Olympiads and attending the International Biology Olympiad as Jury member along with the contestants from Bangladesh since 2015.

Dr. Monjur Mohammad Shahjada, Son of Tofael Ahmed and Tayefa Khanam, was born in Begumgonj Upazila under Noakhali district on 31December 1963. He was graduated in Veterinary Science from Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh in 1984 and his Masters in Veterinary Pharmacology on 1985. He joined BCS Livestock Cadre as Veterinary Surgeon in December 1989. Since then, he has been serving in the Department of Livestock Services in different positions including Veterinary Surgeon, Upazila Livestock Officer, Senior Scientific Officer, Principal Scientific Officer, Deputy Director (Administration), and currently as Director Administration for the last couple of months. He also has experience of working in the then Bangladesh Rifles (now BGB) from the year 2002 to 2006. He is the former Director of World Bank and IFAD supported “National Agricultural Technology Program (Phase 2)” Project. He has experiences of participating in several regional and global programs abroad. Dr. Kashfia Ahmed maintains a diversity in her professional career for the development of agriculture and rural development, CEO of Win Incorporate and Chairman of WinMiaki Ltd. She obtained her doctoral degree from ‘Tokyo University of Science and Technology, Japan’ in 2003. She worked in ‘Japan International Research Center for Agricultural Science (JIRCAS)’ as post-doctoral research fellow. In Bangladesh she started her carrier in ‘Bangladesh Fisheries Research Institute (BFRI)’ as scientific officer. She also worked as ‘Rural ICT consultant’ in ‘Swiss contact KATALYST, Bangladesh’ a multi donor funded project promoting competitiveness of small and medium enterprises (SMEs). She is known for her skill and innovativeness in agricultural content development and content stylization. She worked as ‘Content curator’ in ‘GSMA mAgri’ projects in both Bangladesh and Myanmar. She pioneered Women Social Entrepreneur supporting Bangladesh agriculture through ICT. Initially Dr. Kashfia engaged herself in a project as an agriculture consultant. The project was to provide agricultural information to farmers through ICT, and this became the impetus to start the current enterprise. After the project was over, based on the idea, she established WIN Incorporation in 2006 with an aim to support farmers sustainably through business. The main operation of WIN Incorporate is to provide a business helpline to farmers through mobile Phone, and it has various projects such as digitalizing and other materials about agriculture and support farmers through ICT. The objective of Win Incorporate is to develop information platform for farmers and SMEs for Agriculture.

Dr. Humnath Bhandari

Humnath is an Agricultural & Environmental Economist and the IRRI Country Representative for Bangladesh. He serves as a mission leader and liaises with the government, investors, civil societies, NGOs, and the private sector to coordinate, lead, and implement IRRI’s programs in Bangladesh. In addition, he oversees the overall management of IRRI Bangladesh Office, leads the development of IRRI country programs, and strengthens partnership with stakeholders. As an applied economist with over 20 years of knowledge and experience, Humnath has been working on diverse research and development projects focusing on rural livelihood, food and nutrition security, poverty, climate change, natural resource management, food value chain, agribusiness, market system development, impact assessment, and policy analysis in rice-based agri-food systems in South and Southeast Asia. Currently, he is leading two projects namely “Climate change adaptation of rural households in Charland of Bangladesh” and “Impact of Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD) irrigation technology on rice farmers in Bangladesh.” He has strong competency in qualitative and quantitative research methods including designing survey questionnaires, managing large dataset, and analyzing data using state-of-the-art econometric methods and software package such as GAMS, LIMDEP, SPSS, and STATA. Prior to joining IRRI, Humnath worked as an Assistant Professor of Agricultural Economics at the Tribhuban University, Nepal during 2000-2003 and as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Japan International Research Center for Agricultural Sciences (JIRCAS), Japan during 2005-2007. Currently, he serves as an advisor to the Institute for Social and Environment Research-Nepal. Humnath holds a PhD in Agricultural and Environmental Economics from the University of the Philippines Los Baños, the Philippines. He was awarded the Mahendra Bidhya Bhusan Gold Medal by the then His Majesty King Gyanendra Bir Bikram Saha Dev of Nepal in 2001 and a research fellowship by the Japan Society for Promotion of Science in 2005. He has co-authored and published pertinent books and book chapters, peer-reviewed journal articles, research papers, and policy briefs. One of his co-authored papers was awarded with the “2014 Best Paper” published in Agricultural Economics Journal.

Dr. Jiban Krishna Biswas joined at Krishi Gobeshona Foundation (KGF) as Executive Director on 18 August 2020. He is agricultural graduate (BS Ag, Hons. and MSc Ag) from SAU (Ex-BAI) and BAU, respectively; PhD in Crop Science from CLSU, Philippines, IRRI-USAID scholar, thesis work on Plant Physiology at IRRI from 10 June 1991 to 19 April 1994. A JSPS post-doctoral fellow, Japan and a SEARCA research fellow, Philippines. Trained in different rice production and administration techniques, research methodologies, research management, project planning, financial management, different statistical methods and packages and simulation modelling of rice production, translating science to stakeholder, computer uses etc. Experienced in working on rice research and development (Plant Physiologist) for more than 33 years. Involved directly in developing abiotic stress-tolerant rice varieties and cultural management practices. Provided leadership as Regional Head, Divisional head, Director, Administration, Director, Research and Director-General. Retired on 30 June 2016 as the Director-General of Bangladesh Rice Research Institute (BRRI). Worked as a National Consultant, Healthier Rice Project, IRRI-Bangladesh; from May 2018-April 2019 and Consultant of the same project from June 2019 to May 2020. Also worked as a Consultant Author, BRAC. Short term consultant, GAIN, CCDP. Life Member: Krishibid Society Bangladesh, Agronomy Society, Bangladesh Association for the Advancement of Science. Associated with Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University on Agriculture Botany as an Adjunct Faculty; Syndicate Member with BSMRAU, DUET, JSTU, Sylhet AU, Senate member with Jahangir Nagar University, Member, Board of Regents, PSTU, Syndicate member, JU. Still working as a Graduate School Representative for BSMRAU. Worked as Research Advisor for the MS and PhD students for BAU, SAU, BSMRAU, BUET, BOU; Research supervisor of 13 MS and 7 Ph D students). Used to teach Plant Nutrition and Agricultural Extension and Communication to the BS Ag students, CAS, IUBAT. Credited with 73 scientific publications in national, international journals. Published around 445 popular articles both in Bangla and English mostly on Rice in the leading Dailies of Bangladesh. Published several books, also on rice. Several Books are in progress to be published. Frequently participate in TV talks and policy dialogue on Rice and Climate Change. Worked as the Chief Editor of Bangladesh Rice Journal (ISSN 1025-7330), a regular publication from BRRI. Acted as one of the Co-editors of a book entitled Advances in Rice Research for Abiotic Stress Tolerance published by Elsevier (Woodhead Publishing). P 988. KGF Governance

KGF is governed by a seven member board of directors, elected from amongst KGF general body members who are the eminent personalities having experiences and notable contribution in the field of agriculture of the country.

KGF Present Focus

Initially KGF was involved only in the management and implementation of the Competitive Grants Program(CRP), through financing from the National Agricultural Technology Project(NATP) which has been ended in 2014.

Future Intervention

KGF realizes the needs of new adaptations and research in the field of agriculture to ensure food and nutrition security for the country's growing population against the decreasing cultivable land areas.                                          

Further Development

As an independent body in program development, implementation and maintaining under the guidance of its competent board, KGF enjoys sufficient autonomy and flexibility in pursuing innovative agricultural R&D in the country.
